Protecting native wildlife through backyard trapping will be a crucial part of achieving a Predator Free Dunedin.
City Sanctuary is supporting communities in priority suburbs across Dunedin to set up traps in their backyards.
We’re actively supporting communities in Māori Hill, North Dunedin and Caversham to get residents trapping in their backyards.
These pilot suburbs will allow us to trial and understand the best way to engage, support and collaborate with communities to help achieve city-wide predator control.
Funding and support is available for residents and community groups to get people trapping, monitor outcomes like the presence or absence of predators, what people catch, and how native wildlife like birds, plants and invertebrates respond.

We’re empowering communities to lead backyard trapping efforts in ten priority suburbs. This includes Balmacewen, Dalmore, Glenleith, Helensburgh, Liberton, North East Valley, Normanby, Opoho, Pine Hill and Woodhaugh.
Monitoring equipment, traps and support are available for new and existing community groups. To find out how you can lead predator control in one of these suburbs, please get in touch.
