Can you imagine flocks of wood pigeons, hundreds of colourful kererū, creating noisy wing-beats throughout Ōtepoti/Dunedin? They would perch in our gardens, dozens of birds feasting on the fruits of our native trees, travelling long distances to deposit the seeds, thereby regenerating the forest. By joining the Kererū Club, you can connect with our feathered friends to protect them in our gardens, schools, and communities. In the Kererū Club, you will receive games, activities and fun-filled facts about our endemic pigeon. Finally, you are invited to become a kererū “citizen scientist” by joining us on a ten day adventure (18 – 27 September 2020) to count the kererū with your family and friends. During the Great Kererū Count, you will enter your observations online to join citizen scientists all over New Zealand. You will also receive free native trees for your school or community!Connect with our local taonga. Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu.
Adorn the bird with feathers so it may soar.
Our vision is to create a vibrant City Sanctuary for Dunedin where wildlife thrives, and communities are leading city-wide predator control. @CitySanctuaryNZ
