Caversham is the third suburban trapping area, alongside Māori Hill and North Dunedin, where City Sanctuary is implementing backyard predator control to help protect native wildlife.
The aim of our three trapping areas is to reduce predator numbers while finding out which trap types are most effective in urban areas, what motivates people to trap, and what resources are required for long-term predator control.
Caversham was chosen because its population is a good representation of Dunedin. The suburb is also an important “stepping-stone” area as we work to connect our Town Belt trapping network to predator control on the Otago Peninsula.
